The Lanigan arena will undergo upgrades thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

“Upgrades to Lanigan’s arena will create local jobs in our community, while allowing more families and residents to use this great facility,” said the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.

The community will use the funds to replace the arena ice plant.  The upgrade will enhance the technology being used, improve energy efficiency and reduce operating costs.

"Lanigan is so fortunate that we received the RINC grant to update our ice plant to be a greener community by having a more energy efficient facility,” said Nicole Ehalt, Director of Recreation and Community Development. “This will help us save on costs which will benefit the community."

Funding of $77,500 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.  The Town of Lanigan will commit $155,000 towards the facility upgrade, with a total project cost of $232,500.

The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
